SUMNER 1ST XI MATCH REPORT VS MERIVALE-PAPANUI AT ST LEONARDS
The 1st XI hosted a very new look Merivale-Papanui Cricket Club. Winning the toss Sumner elected to bat and made a patient start while the ball was new scoring was a little harder to come by. Two early wickets fell with the score at 27 put some early pressure on. George Moore batted superbly anchoring the innings and carrying his bat to be the last man dismissed for 109, his maiden senior hundred for Sumner! Dan Vann chimed in with a cameo quickfire 41 to finish with a very respectable 215 but Sumner may have left a few extra runs out there not completing the full 50 overs.
In reply Sumner made early inroads with Dean Smith (2-24) and Nawid Mohammady (2-29) and Merivale were in early trouble at 45-4. The introduction of Tyler Walker then really closed the door on any chance of a fight back taking impressive figues of 5-8, his maiden 5 wicket bag for Sumner! Jonny Percasky also bowled well 1-20.
