Big game of cricket with old rivals from East Shirley, the King’s XI.
Barnett was looking incredible but plenty of rain during the week meant for a soft deck that looked tough to bat on. We won the toss and sent them out to bat.
Things started well with Josh Hurrelland Sheldon Williams putting pressure on early. With their good spells along with support from Richard, Ethan and Jimmy, Easts were 70ish for 3 at drinks.
We set out to finish them off after drinks and quick wickets came before a frustrating stretch of overs where we bled a few runs.
They survived to the 39th over with a total of 183 all out. Some gutsy bowling in the heat and wind with the highlights being Josh Hurrell (1/25 off 8), Sheldon Williams (3/40 off 8), Jimmy Spud (3/18 off 3.3), Ethan Vickery (2/24 off 4) and Richard Wall with an economical 0/23 off his 8.
Big total to chase on a slow deck but we started decently in the runs chase putting 50 or so on the board before wickets started falling. Simon Turner (18) Nicky Cottam (18) and Ben Richdale (33) all got starts but couldn’t convert and we were unable to get any momentum from there.
We fell short by 45 runs which ended a frustrating game full of niggle and confrontation.
The points table now has a 4 way tie at the top with us right there in the mixer.
