Sumner met New Brighton for the second round of the one day comp looking to bounce back after two straight losses.

Sumner was asked to bat and was in early trouble at 78-7 with Ethan Vickery the only top order bat able to get a start with 24. Fortunately, Dan Vann and Scott Barber were able to pull things back a bit with a patient 41 run partnership. At 119-8 Vann started to open up and score with freedom scoring 74 from 67 balls and bring some momentum back in Sumner's favour. Vann was eventually the last to fall with the score at 160 all out.

In reply, Sumner started extremely well with Tom Gooday (3-29) and Dan Vann (2-29) taking 4 early wickets and Jonny Percasky (1-30) picking up a wicket in his first over meant New Brighton at 38-5 were in big trouble. Mätt Fïêldïng (33) and Robin James (40) then combined to reconstruct the run chase putting on 58 runs. Captain Johnny JB Beveridge become the hero with the ball taking 4 key wickets including both Fielding and James to finish with figures of 4-36, had he not bowled 17 wides his figures would have been even more impressive!

New Brighton was still in the match but wickets fell and they were eventually bowled out for 145, 15 short of the total required. A much-needed win for the boys as they quest to defend the one-day title.
